　　形容詞是dead；名詞是death；過(guò)去式是died；過(guò)去分詞是died；現(xiàn)在分詞是dying。die可作動(dòng)詞，名詞，意為“死亡，熄滅；凋零，枯萎；電量耗盡；渴望，盼望；鋼型，硬模；骰子”等。

　　death n.(1)死;死亡;(2)滅亡;毀滅

　　例：Last night's TV news said that by then the death of the missing people had not been proved yet. 昨晚電視新聞報(bào)道，到那時(shí)為止，失蹤人員生死未卜。

　　The lasted bombing is the death of all our hope. 最近的爆炸事件使我們所有的希望都化為烏有。

　　There were no theatres, no cinemas, no coffee bars. It was dead as anything. 那時(shí)既無(wú)劇院，又無(wú)電影院，也無(wú)咖啡館，死氣沉沉的。

　　2、die常用短語(yǔ)

　　die from 意為“由于……而死”，但一般常用于由外傷、衰老引起的死亡。例如：

　　The old man died from a car accident last year. 這個(gè)老人去年死于一場(chǎng)車(chē)禍。

　　die of意思同die from，但它一般指由于疾病、情感等原因引起的死亡。例如：

　　His grandfather died of liver cancer in 1992. 他的祖父1992年死于肝癌。

　　die out 意為“（家族、物種等）滅絕；絕跡”。例如：

　　Dinosaurs died out 65 million years ago. 恐龍?jiān)诹�千五百萬(wàn)年前滅絕了。
